Sustainable Development, Climate Change, Business, Academics
Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of the Belgians and her husband King Philippe recently visited South Korea on a three-day state visit. The Sustainable Development Goals were a constant thread throughout the visit. Her Majesty hosted an SDG lunch with Chair of the SDG Advocates Alumni, Ambassador Dho, which was attended by Belgian and Korean businessmen and academics. The lunch celebrated the cultural and diplomatic ties between the two nations and discussed specifics on the SDGs.
Her Majesty met with former Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon while in the Republic of Korea to discuss sustainable development and the SDGs in connection with a seminar attended by Belgian and Korean officials on “Innovative solutions for the circular economy, sustainable mobility and climate change.” In coordination with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Her Majesty met with young Koreans to discuss the effect of climate change on youth. The meeting followed a theatrical production to illustrate young Korean’s serious concerns about climate change.
