Muhammad Sanusi II Launches Sustainable Development Goals Challenge
As part of his lifelong commitment to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Muhammadu Sanusi launched the annual Muhammad Sanusi II SDGs Challenge in partnership with 1 Million Teachers (1MT), a social enterprise that provides access to high quality teacher education to underserved communities around the world. This project is designed to fuel innovation, create great community impact, empower women and girls, and catalyze innovative community development activities that will supercharge the achievement of the SDGs. The project is focused specifically on SDG four, quality education, and SDG five, gender equality. The challenge is expected to improve access to quality education for girls, increase the number of female teachers in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa by providing women with the necessary skills to enter the field, and create a self-sustaining cycle where teachers and parents inspire girls within and beyond the classroom. The ultimate aim is to have a critical mass of highly competent and enterprising education change makers who will help provide the needed improvement in learning outcomes in their communities.
The ten winners, who will be teachers from the Sub-Saharan region, will receive a five hundred dollar grant which will be used to fund their educational project. While initially funding ten winners per year, the project aims to expand further in coming years.. Watch the full interview with H.H Muhammad Sanusi II here.
